But be careful, it’s one of the toughest bosses because you have to battle it multiple times.
The Scadutree Avatar might remind you of the Erdtree Avatars in the Lands Between, but it’s more like the Ulcerated Tree Spirit, except it looks like a giant, deadly sunflower that can also use powerful holy attacks.
To make things harder, it can regenerate itself, so you’ll need more endurance than usual. Because of this, it’s best to save this fight for later when you’re stronger.

How to Prepare for Scadutree Avatar Boss Fight in Shadow Of The Erdtree?
In Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, every boss deals massive damage, so you need enough health and resistance to withstand a few hits.
The Scadutree Avatar mostly deals with Physical and Holy Damage. To reduce the damage you take, I recommend using the Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman, which cuts Physical Damage by 20%, and the Haligdrake Talisman+3, which reduces Holy Damage by 25%.
Combine these talismans with 60 Vigor, the Crimson Amber Medallion+3 from the Death Knight in the Western Unnamed Catacombs, and Morgott’s Great Rune for an extra 25% health boost.
This setup will give you nearly 2,600 health, allowing you to take a few hits from the Scadutree Avatar while you focus on dealing damage, especially in the final phase.
The Scadutree Avatar uses thorn attacks that inflict Bleed, so keep plenty of Stanching Boluses in your quick item menu for easy access.
The boss is weak to Fire Damage, so bring a Fire weapon or use Fire spells. However, you can manage with any weapon; I found a Bleed weapon effective.
Lastly, Scadutree Fragments are crucial for boosting your damage and defense throughout the expansion.

How to Beat Scadutree Avatar in Shadow Of The Erdtree?
Initial Approach: The first time you enter the arena, the fight doesn’t start until you get close to the boss, which initially looks like a dormant, withered giant sunflower.
On subsequent attempts, the fight begins immediately with three ranged attacks using its spiky roots as soon as you step through the fog door.
Dodging Root Attacks: These roots cause bleed buildup, and three direct hits can fill the bar and cause significant blood loss, so you need to dodge them.
You can’t outrun or block bleed buildup with a shield, and the tree trunks around the arena won’t protect you as the roots can tear through them.
Instead, dodge these attacks and quickly try to close the distance.
Close Combat
Target the Head: Once you’re close, the Scadutree Avatar will attack with its long tree limbs, either swinging them at you or slamming them into the ground.
It can also slam its sunflower head down, which is your best chance to deal damage. Aim for its head because you can inflict almost double the damage compared to hitting its trunk.
Block or dodge its attacks and wait for an opportunity to strike its head.
Avoid Staying Underneath: Although staying under the boss might seem safer, targeting the head is more effective.
Holy Attacks
Charge-Up Blast: When the boss raises its head to charge a holy attack, prepare to dodge the homing projectiles.
First Phase
Riposte Opportunity: After depleting its health, the Scadutree Avatar will collapse with its head glowing orange, indicating a weak point.
Approach the head quickly and deliver a riposte. In the next phase, it will have 75% health instead of a full bar. Be quick, as it only stays in this position for a few seconds.
If you miss the window, it will re-emerge with full health.
Second Phase
Increased Aggression: In the second phase, the Scadutree Avatar keeps most of its original attacks but becomes more aggressive.
It can charge you three times consecutively, usually at the start of this phase.
These charges can be blocked with a shield that has 100% physical block, allowing your stamina to recover between charges.
Its attacks also become thornier, with ranged spike root attacks and tree-limb slams that can end with a thorn’s burst, increasing bleed buildup.
Third Phase
Massive Explosion: In the third phase, move as far away as possible because the Scadutree Avatar will charge up light in its body and release a huge explosion that can easily one-shot you if your vigor isn’t high enough.
The AOE is massive, so if you can’t escape, put your shield up to reduce the damage.
It might repeat this attack during the phase, and it has a variation where it explodes three times near death.
Stay close for attacks but retreat when its chest starts glowing yellow.
Consistency: Maintain a balance between attacking and dodging. Always be ready to dodge the boss’s more powerful attacks.
Healing: Keep an eye on your health and use healing flasks as needed. Ensure your Spirit Ash survives as long as possible to help with the fight.
