Follow this guide to learn exactly how to start the Elden Ring DLC, along with some helpful tips to get you started in Shadow Of The Erdtree.

How to Start Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC?

To start the Shadow Of The Erdtree DLC in Elden Ring, follow these steps:

  1. Defeat Starscourge Radahn and Mohg, Lord Of Blood
  2. Interact with the withered arm in the cocoon at Mohgwyn’s Palace

Here’s a detailed guide on how to complete these steps:

1. Defeat Starscourge Radahn

Starscourge Radahn is the main boss in Caelid, the Rot-infested area east of Limgrave.

To fight him, wait until the Radahn Festival is active, then head to Redmane Castle in southeast Caelid and activate the portal on the beach.

You can start the Radahn Festival in three ways:

  • Reach any Site of Grace on the Altus Plateau.
  • Progress in Ranni’s quest until you mention Radahn to Blaidd in Siofra River.
  • Progress in Ranni’s quest until you mention Witch-Hunter Jerren to Iji.

Caelid is challenging, so it’s recommended to complete Limgrave, Liurnia, and possibly the Altus Plateau first. Check out our Elden Ring area order guide for more details.

2. Defeat Mohg, Lord Of Blood

Mohg, Lord Of Blood, is located in Mohgwyn Palace, an underground area accessible in two ways:

  • Use the teleporter in the west of the Consecrated Snowfield.
  • Use the Pureblood Knight’s Medal given at the end of White Mask Varré’s quest.

The second method is quicker, but Mohgwyn Palace is a tough endgame area, so you might find yourself underleveled. If you need help, refer to our Elden Ring Mohg, Lord Of Blood boss fight guide.

3. Touch the Withered Arm in Mohgwyn Palace

After defeating Mohg in his throne room, interact with the withered arm sticking out of the bloody cocoon on Mohg’s throne. This arm belongs to the demigod Miquella, a central figure in the Shadow Of The Erdtree DLC.

If you can’t interact with the arm, fast travel to the nearby Site of Grace to reload the area.

You should see a new character, Needle Knight Leda, standing next to the arm. Speak to her, and she’ll tell you to touch the withered arm to transport yourself to the Land Of Shadow, the new map in the DLC.

Following these steps will unlock the Shadow Of The Erdtree DLC, allowing you to explore the new area and enjoy the expanded content.

How to Progress through Elden Ring Shadow Of The Erdtree DLC?

If you’ve managed to defeat Mohg, Lord Of Blood, you’re likely at a suitable level to dive into the Shadow Of The Erdtree DLC.

The difficulty throughout the DLC map should be comparable to late-game areas in the base game like Miquella’s Haligtree and Crumbling Farum Azula.
