If you’ve ever played Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, you know it loves to give you random keys and then let you figure out what they open.

Usually, the doors these keys open are close by, like the Storeroom key in Belurat. But in typical FromSoftware fashion, that’s not always the case.

To get the Prayer Room key, you need to defeat Fire Knight Queelign when he invades you on the north side of Belurat, Tower Settlement. Later, he will invade you again at the Church of the Crusade, northwest of the Highroad Cross of Miquella, once you reach Scadu Altus. Beat the Knight again, and he’ll drop the Prayer Room key.

Once you have it, you’ll use it in a different sub-area to open a room that’s easy to miss, hidden away in a corner you might not even notice.

How to Get Prayer Room Key in Shadow of the Erdtree?

To get the Prayer Room Key, you need to defeat Fire Knight Queelign in battle for a second time.

If you first fought him in Belurat, Tower Settlement, the next battle will be at the Church of the Crusade in Scadu Altus.

This church is located northwest of the Site of Grace ‘Highroad Cross’, just before the soldier encampment near Shadow Keep.

When you enter the church, Fire Knight Queelign will invade. Defeat him, and he will drop the Prayer Room Key as a reward.

How to Use Prayer Room Key in Shadow of the Erdtree?

The Prayer Room is located within the Shadow Keep Church District, which you can access only from the east side of the Shadow Keep, near the Cathedral of Manus Metyr.

Unfortunately, you can’t reach this part of the keep from the front entrance, even though it’s closest to where you just fought Fire Knight Queelign.

Finding the Church District entrance is essential to completing Shadow Keep since it’s the only way to reach the boss, Messmer the Impaler. You’ll pass by the Prayer Room as you head to the boss.

However, the Church District area is flooded, creating tricky platforming challenges among the rooftops and passageways.

To avoid losing your hard-earned Runes, consider leveling up before attempting this section, as accidental deaths are common.

Starting from the Site of Grace ‘Church District Entrance‘, jump down to the rooftop in front of you.

Deal with the crabs on the rooftop if you wish, but your goal is to head to the other side of the quad. Use one of the raised dormer ridges to jump onto the next crumbled wall to the west.

Navigate to where there are two more crabs. Be cautious, as fire enemies will emerge and rush at you with explosive attacks. Keep your distance and use long-range weapons to take them out.

Once safe, climb up the sloped wall and jump over to the small platform by the outer wall of the keep.

More exploding fire enemies will appear here, but you can quickly run past them and jump onto the next rooftop to the west.

A Fire Knight will appear on this rooftop, wielding powerful fire spells and a large, fire-infused sword. If you’re struggling, dodge-roll into their swings and attack when you can.

After dealing with the Fire Knight, prepare for some challenging platforming. Ignore the ominous rumbling and focus on jumping to the large black arch to your left. With a good run-up, you can make the jump:

Run up the arch and jump to the roof above. Drop down onto the grey beams below, lining yourself up carefully to avoid falling into the water.

Make your way to the south side of the arch and jump onto the upper floor ahead. Drop down again through the giant hole in the floor.

Before proceeding down the long corridor, turn around and follow the path to a small door in the corner of the flooded room.

This is the Prayer Room, where you’ll find Fire Knight Queelign muttering in distress on the floor. Talk to him until you’ve exhausted his dialogue.

You’ve reached the Prayer Room safely. For now, there’s nothing more you can do for Fire Knight Queelign. You can progress his questline once you acquire one of two specific items: the Iris of Occultation or the Iris of Grace.

Once you have one of these items, return to the Prayer Room and give it to Queelign to receive Queelign’s Great Sword as a reward and complete his quest line.
